4 members (Caleb, Tianze, Mark, and Michela) of the team met to assemble the first biofilter. They placed the tubing ring in the bottom of the barrel. On top of it they placed 4 inches of crushed rock. On top of that they placed pea gravel. Then they placed a barrier level. The barrier level was made by cutting a cloth feed bag in a circle with a diameter larger than the barrel. The bag was folded to fit the barrel. Then the washed sand was placed on top and filled to about 8 inches )Just below the fitting for the tubing that runs up from the bottom) from the top of the barrel. The first barrel is complete and ready to go.
